Analytical Scientist

Responsibilities:

  • Support Global Operational & R&D activities by performing analytical testing using HPLC, MP-AES and UV spectroscopy, GC-MS, LC-QQQMS
  • Data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting
  • Development, updating and writing of analytical procedures
  • Development and implementation of new methods of analysis which increase speed and accuracy of results
  • Collaboration and technical transfer of methods between laboratories
  • Liaising with external partners such as Universities, Research Institutes, and laboratories to increase Calysta technical knowledge and analytical capabilities.
  • Identify and share new technologies and trends which may improve capability or address business needs.
  • Maintenance of facilities, equipment, and safety in the laboratories
  • Devise and deliver training on topics related to Analytical testing as and when required.
  • Support the development of the local and global Calysta Feed Safety & Quality Management and monitoring systems
  • Subject Matter expert for analytical chemistry methods
  • Provide trouble shooting and root cause analysis support where required.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team in China to develop and implement analytical methods, equipment installation and provide guidance on monitoring and control plans.

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in chemistry or related subject
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an analytical laboratory within the food, feed, or pet food manufacturing sectors or a GMP environment.
  • Experience with a variety of modern analytical techniques including HPLC, GC and MP-AES, UV spectroscopy. NIR experience would be an advantage
  • A clear understanding of GMP, regulatory and accreditation systems and quality management
  • Knowledge of current HACCP, GMP, GLP, COSHH and EHS standards
  • Curiosity and Critical thinking mindset with a focus on results, with a solution orientated can do attitude.
  • Demonstrable ability to analyse information in a logical manner and to prepare coherent investigative and technical reports
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and flexible Team player with ability to work under own initiative
  • Aptitude for cross-functional collaboration with engineers, scientists, and operators
  • Willing to work outside normal working hours
  • Able to travel to suppliers, customers and future production facilities: e.g. China Q4 2022

Analytical Research Assistant/Associate

Calysta is hiring a highly motivated Analytical Research Assistant or Associate to become a key contributor to our analytical chemistry team.

Reports:

Head of Analytical

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, validate and implement new and improved methods of chemical analysis.
  • Perform routine & non routine chemical analysis using GC, GCMS, HPLC, LCMS and other analytical equipment.
  • Oversee the technical transfer of methods between laboratories.
  • Develop, write and update SOP as required.
  • Conduct biochemical and enzymatic assay with high throughput format.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and consumable stock levels.
  • Communicate effectively with various cross-functional teams.

Requirements:

  • BS in Chemistry or related subject.
  • >4 years of experience working in an analytical laboratory in industry setting is preferred.
  • Experience with HPLC setup, operation and method development essential
  • Experience with a variety of modern analytical techniques including GC, GCMS,
  • LCMS, and UV spectroscopy.
  • Experience with QTOF MS is a plus.

Molecular Micro RA
LOCATION: San Mateo, CA

Reports:

Head of Microbiology

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor fermentation/product samples for known bacterial species as well as contaminants via plating and identification, including 16S sequencing.
  • Develop robust NGS/deep sequencing methods for complex bacterial consortia.
  • Develop/apply QPCR methods to quantitate consortia members in mixed fermentation samples, confirming/comparing results to plating and/or NGS results.
  • Cell bank and starter culture preparation of bacterial strains.
  • Communicate effectively with various cross-functional teams and sites.

Requirements:

  • BS in Molecular or Microbiology or related subject.
  • Prior experience with sterile technique, plating, preparation of bacterial cells.
  • Prior experience with PCR and QPCR methods.
  • Industrial experience preferred.

Computational Microbiologist

Calysta is looking for a highly motivated computational microbiologist to join our team. With a background in bioinformatics/data analytics and microbiology, the ideal candidate will help develop and implement new methods for rapid analysis of complex microbial consortia.

Reports to: VP, R&D

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop robust NGS/deep sequencing methods for complex bacterial consortia.
  • Develop bioinformatics analysis pipeline and tools to process and visualize data.
  • SOP generation and tech transfer of wet lab methods.
  • Enable remote data analysis (to process data from sites around the globe and provide rapid feedback).
  • Communicate effectively with various cross-functional teams and sites.

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD in Computational Biology or related subject.
  • Hands on experience with NGS platforms.
  • Experience with analysis of microbiome data as well as WGS data.
  • Team player with ability to work under own initiative.
