First Annual Methane Bioengineering Summit To Be Held September 1

Menlo Park, CA – July 14, 2015 – Calysta, Inc. (www.calysta.com) today announced it will be lead sponsor of the first annual Methane Bioengineering Summit, scheduled for Sept. 1 in San Diego, CA. Researchers throughout the world are discovering new uses for methane, a major component of natural gas and a high-potential, sustainable source of energy. Prominent academic, industry and government leaders will explore emerging applications for this low-cost, widely-available feedstock in practical, scalable industrial and consumer products beyond petroleum.

The Methane Bioengineering Summit will include sessions ranging from government policy drivers to methanotroph biology and gas fermentation to commercial production of methane. It will lead off the three-day Sustainable Chemicals & Plastics Adoption & Applications Summit, September 1-3. The event will be presented by Infocast, the leading business intelligence and events producer in the biobased chemicals industry.

“Methane is emerging as a significant source of sustainable new products from industrial plastics to feed for livestock and aquaculture,” said Josh Silverman, Ph.D., Calysta Chief Technology Officer. “The United States has more than 100 years supply of methane, available from multiple sources including municipal and commercial waste and agriculture. Calysta is pleased to be partnering with Infocast to bring together thought leaders in methane biology, technology development and public policy to advance discoveries in this critical field.”

Menlo Park, CA – April 21, 2015 – California-based sustainable life science firm Calysta, Inc. (www.calysta.com) has announced plans to launch a proven new fish feed ingredient that can reduce the aquaculture industry’s reliance on unsustainable fish stocks sourced from the world’s oceans.

FeedKind™ Protein, announced to coincide with Earth Day 2015, is expected to be introduced to the Scottish and Norwegian aquaculture sectors in 2018.

FeedKind Protein is a high quality microbial protein that provides a cost-competitive alternative to conventional fishmeal.  The protein, produced with minimal land and water use, is non-GMO and approved in the EU for all fish and livestock species.

Alan Shaw, Ph.D., President and CEO, said: “Calysta is committed to creating alternative ingredients and feeds that minimize impact on the environment and contribute to food security, based on a strong intellectual property platform.

“FeedKind Protein can replace fishmeal and soy protein with a nutritious, naturally occurring protein, and offer consumers a new option that is sustainable and healthy.  It can also contribute to the aquaculture industry’s need for sustainable products to meet increasing global demand for new sources of protein.”

FeedKind Protein will be manufactured using a natural proprietary fermentation process, a production method similar to that used to produce yeast-extract sandwich spreads.  Studies have confirmed FeedKind Protein’s nutritional value, based on criteria such as animal growth and health. Calysta expects to introduce FeedKind™ Aqua first for the aquaculture industry, to be followed by additional FeedKind products for the livestock market.

Calysta, Inc. (www.calysta.com), Menlo Park, CA, is an innovator in developing a broad, proprietary portfolio of sustainable products for food and energy security. Calysta has two business units. Calysta Nutrition develops and commercializes fish and livestock nutritional products.
